Visitors were informed and coordinated at the log-in station, the logistical centre of the Cloud. Visitors were also given mackintoshes here.
The passerelle (bridge) to the Expo.02 Cloud on the Arteplage Yverdon-les-Bains had two egg-shaped girders instead of one. It stood on steel yokes that had already supported an army emergency bridge. Steel supports stood on the yokes, the different heights of which ensured the inclination of the bridge. Tension cables between the bridge body and the yokes prevented the bridge from tipping over. The span from yoke to yoke was 13.00 metres, a measurement taken from the army emergency bridge. One module of the girders weighed only 25 kilograms, which meant that each component could be carried by a single person during installation. The parapets of the passerelles made of fibreglass were translucent, which was further enhanced by the lighting from below. The bright sea green colour was a perfect match for the cloud by Diller & Scofidio from New York, who were responsible for the colour scheme of the passerelles.
Hundreds of thousands of people used the passerelles to access the Cloud. Expo.02 was the ideal opportunity. to test the material and construction in daily use, from installation and abrasion of the walkways to dismantling.
After Expo.02, the passerelles were dismantled into their modules and reused.
