Even the landmark of the Arteplage Murten-Morat radiated an astonishing serenity considering its size. It lay outside in the lake as if there was nothing wrong with having such a structure floating out of a concrete platform. The massive fortresses of the Middle Ages seemed just as tangibly present as Arnold Böcklin's painting Toteninsel (Isle of the Dead), one of Nouvel's sources of inspiration.
