The Expo.02 programme of events also included the fascinating world of sport. Numerous tournaments, shows and competitions were organised for all sports fans on and around the Arteplages. 

ExpoGames.02 took place in two phases: The qualifying tournaments were held from the end of August 2001 at eleven different locations in the four language regions. Around 16'000 sportsmen and sportswomen (professionals and amateurs) took part to win their ticket for Expo.02. These events were attended by around 25'000 spectators. The finals, the competitions and the introductory courses at Expo.02 took place over a period of six weeks (from 11.07 to 18.08.2002). More than 39'000 participants tried their hand at one of the 87 disciplines presented. The competitions featured 31 Olympic medallists, 27 world or European champions and 74 Swiss champions and national sporting greats. Winter sports were included in the programme. For a week, the Arteplage Yverdon-les-Bains was the stage for winter sports fun thanks to the installation of a snow-covered ramp.
