CIM.02 Biel-Bienne
As part of Expo.02, the city of Biel-Bienne (Building Department) and Biel-Bienne Transport Services, together with 19 other partners, launched Switzerland's first mobility centre. CIM.02 Biel-Bienne (Centre d'Information sur la Mobilité) was located directly behind Biel-Bienne railway station in Terminal B, next to the Corso, the visitor flow between the tracks and the Arteplage Biel-Bienne. It pursued an ambitious concept by combining information/advice (reception centre) with the management of the rental of various means of transport and mobility (operations centre). Various providers had office space and back-office areas there. Vehicles such as bicycle taxis, electric buses and electric vehicles and the HPM vehicles were serviced, washed, charged and, if necessary, repaired there. CIM.02 was created in the context of the traffic collapse in the Biel-Bienne region during Expo.02, which was feared by the authorities. Alternative, environmentally friendly and space-saving vehicles were intended to help prevent traffic gridlock on Biel-Bienne's roads. However, CIM.02 was more than that: the CIM.02 operations centre offered Expo.02 visitors the opportunity to try out new forms of mobility and thereby expand their mobility awareness. On the other hand, all mobility information was bundled and coordinated at the CIM.02 reception centre – every question was answered via a counter, a telephone number and a website.
